In our typical "party conversation," there are always the default questions when getting to know someone...
"What do you do for a living?" They ask.
"I own a seafood business with my family," I answer.
The conversation goes in a myriad of different directions about where I get my seafood, to who my customers are or my favorite type of seafood.
I will in turn ask them their favorite type of seafood and their favorite seafood restaurant. However, several months ago, I decided to start asking a different question...
"What kind of seafood do you like to prepare at home?
I am not surprised to hear that many people do not eat seafood at home. I knew this already, but I felt this was a good way to get into the conversation of how easy it really is, but no matter what, many of the people I talk to have pretty strong feelings or should I say fears about cooking seafood in their own kitchen.
The following are the Top 5 reasons why people deny themselves this healthy and delectable treasure from our oceans and waterways.
1) They don't know how to cook seafood.
2) They don't like seafood.
3) They don't like the way the house will smell after they cook seafood.
4) They don't have time to cook seafood.
5) They don't want to deal with thawing out seafood.
My mission is to help these lost souls overcome their fears and scary childhood experiences and become Culinary Champions of their favorite pescatarian delights!
I am asking for your help in my quest... and I am willing to pay you for it.
Each month, I am going to do my best to help these folks overcome their fears. I believe I can make a good argument to at least try it, but your ideas, suggestions and recipes will provide tremendous "social proof" that seafood can be part of their regular diet at home. We are going to start in November with #1 - "They don't know how to cook seafood."
